Dear Acquisitions Librarian:
Maureen O’Sullivan “No Average Jane" has garnered outstanding reviews (attached) from several well-known
reviewers including Leonard Maltin and Anthony Slide. A gorgeous book with 520 pages, 200+ photographs, Smythe-sewn binding, and printed
at Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Maureen O’Sullivan wrote the Foreword to my 1994 book, “Kings of the Jungle,” and
we engaged in friendly correspondence for several years. I also received the full cooperation of Maureen’s husband, James Cushing.
Contributing moral support and many rare photos were Maureen’s grandson, Jason Dene, and his wife Judith.
As the author I am especially proud of this book, and believe that the true story of Maureen O’Sullivan should be enjoyed by library
patrons everywhere. The Irish actress and mother of seven still has millions of fans across this country and Europe, and if any Hollywood
star could be described as “beloved” it would be the late Maureen O’Sullivan.
The audience for
this biography is primarily "Baby Boomers" and older, plus anyone who enjoys classic films. And of course any person who wishes to
read about a woman who had a fascinating life filled with the highs and lows of public success and personal tragedy.
There is also considerable history about the Golden Age of Hollywood, especially as it pertains to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Maureen co-starred
with many of the MGM legends, and had starring roles in many of the studio’s greatest classics. (Please see the press release.) MGM
was famous for its motto, “More Stars than there are in Heaven,” and Maureen was one of the brightest.
Although
Artist's Press is a "small press," typical reviews over the years have included: “Both in appearance and in content, (this biography)
is the equal of any volume from a mainstream trade publisher.” (From author Anthony Slide). I’m confident the patrons of the public
libraries of America will greatly enjoy Maureen O'Sullivan “No Average Jane.”
Please recommend this book to other
members of your library system or county. Thank you.
Sincerely,
David A. Fury
